We always say that there’s no such thing as too much security. We know you’ll protect your home, but what about your other assets? How are you protecting your computer or phone? Many of us are still not very tech-savvy, but neglecting to protect your tech could end in disaster. So since security is our game, we at Alarm Center Security want to give you a few tips on how to keep your technology safe.
How Do I Protect My Computer?
Not all viruses or anomalies look like the Morris worm, the first computer worm and one of the most popular discrepancies to this day. Nor do they all present the same. Some viruses are actually rather subtle—lying in wait and looking for personal info. While others are rather intense—so bad they can cause your computer to become entirely useless. But you’ll never know what a virus does or looks like in the wild until it’s entirely too late. That is, unless you have protection programs installed.
The best protection you can take for your computer is running anti-virus and anti-malware programs often. Depending on your system, your device should have already have access to programs such as Windows Defender. Although, many people rather other trusted programs like Malwarebytes. Either way, be careful what program you use. There are a few malicious programs out there parading as anti-virus programs in an attempt to trick you into putting them on your computer. Do your research before choosing a line of defense.
Staying Safe On The Line and Online
We tend to focus on protecting the outside of our phones from cracks and spills. But what about the inside? With the rise of technology, we’re given an array of amazing creations. But that also means criminals are looking for opportunities to steal your information.
So, what do you do? Well, for one, make sure you have the most recent system installed. If not, update it and turn on automatic updates. Old versions can have vulnerabilities, and you need to stay protected as possible.
The great thing about smartphones is that they aren’t susceptible to viruses. So the main thing to worry about is other malware. These malicious programs are usually designed to slow down a person’s phone. The good news is that they’re actually very easy to avoid. You just need to know what to look out for.
What about when you’re checking your email? Don’t open messages from suspicious accounts or from people you don’t know. Avoid clicking on weird-looking ads. Know what to download and what not to download, even apps! Always check the descriptions and reviews to make sure they’re credible. Either way, you want to be careful.
Keep Your Tech Safe
At the end of the day, it’s all keeping an eye out and running your virus scanners. When you know what to trust, technology can be a pretty fun experience.
